The Milan metro is a network of four metro lines serving the city of Milan and part of its surroundings . It has 5 lines that include 136 stations. To use the services offered by the ATM ( company that deals with the operation of means of transport in Milan ) you must have a valid ticket for the ride or subscribe to a subscription that allows you to own the card of the means . 

Below are listed all the available subscriptions and facilities, both for traveling in Milan and in the Municipalities where the integrated tariff system is valid :

Urban subscriptions, to travel only in Milan

All urban subscriptions (monthly, annual, subsidized) are valid for travel within the boundaries of the City of Milan and no further. You can travel on the ATM urban network and on the city sections of the long-distance lines, Trenord and S lines (those that cross the railway passageway).

Ordinary urban subscriptions

  • Monthly: 39 € Valid from the first to the last day of the month
  • Annual: 330 € Worth 12 consecutive calendar months

Reduced annual urban subscription based on income

  • Annual: 50,00 € Worth 12 consecutive solar months
  • For all citizens with ISEE up to 6,000 €
  • It is only required at Tax Assistance Centres (CAF).

Urban subscription Young people under 27

  • For students and workers until the age of 27
  • Monthly: 22,00 € Valid from the first to the last day of the month
  • Annual: 200,00 € Worth 12 consecutive solar months

Urban subscription Young people under 30

  • For people up to 30 years and with an ISEE less than 28.000 €
  • Monthly: 22,00 € Valid from the first to the last day of the month
  • Annual: 200,00 € Worth 12 consecutive solar months
  • It is required at Tax Assistance Centres (CAF) , or ATMs Points .

Urban subscription Evening students

  • Monthly: 11,00 € Valid from the first to the last day of the month
  • For all evening students, no age limit
  • It is valid from Monday to Friday from 17 to 20:30 and from 21 to the end of service, on Saturdays from 13 to 20. Sunday is not valid 

Weekly pass, to travel in Milan and surroundings

  • It costs 17 € and is valid from Monday to Sunday of the same week
  • Applies not only in the City of Milan, but also in neighboring municipalities that are located in the tariff zone Mi1-Mi3

Suburban subscriptions, to travel outside Milan

The subscription fee depends on the areas you are passing through. 

The types of suburban subscriptions

  • weekly: valid from Monday to Sunday of the same week
  • monthly: valid from the first to the last day of the month
  • annual: is worth 12 consecutive solar months
  • reduced annual: 85% discount. Can have it who belongs to households with ISEE equal to or less than 6,000 € It is required only at tax assistance centers (CAF)
  • Under 26: 25% discount on the monthly or annual subscription
  • Senior: from 65 years, 25% discount on the monthly or annual subscription

On which lines are subscriptions valid

Within the zone and duration written on the ticket, tickets are valid:

  • on all ATM, metro and surface lines
  • on the Trenord railway lines, including the S lines (those crossing the railway passageway)
  • on all means of suburban public transport operating in the territory of the Integrated Tariff System (including NET lines in Monza)
  • on some particular lines connecting municipalities of the integrated tariff system and municipalities outside

For children under 14 no subscription required 

Girls and boys under 14 travel free on public transport in all municipalities where the integrated tariff system (STIBM) applies. Just show an ID card. On Trenord train routes, children under the age of 14 can only travel with an ID if accompanied by paying adults. They must also have an Under 14 card if they travel alone.
