If you are here, it’s probably because you have chosen to spend your Erasmus in Barcelona or you are thinking about applying to live your experience abroad there.

Well, your choice is absolutely great! Barcelona is the second biggest city in Spain, an economic landmark and a touristic main stop.

With an enchanting seaside, an outstanding architecture and international vibes and influences, this city has many things to offer for those who chose to move to Barcelona.

Since we want you to make the most of your Erasmus in Spain (or your work experience), here are few tips to enjoy the city and the life in there and to get settled: from finding apartments in Barcelona, to the trips and the uncountable parties, in order to live a happy Erasmus!

Before your arrival

When you decided to apply for the Erasmus program, it was probably all about cheering and joy. It’s now time to face some important issues. What should you do before and upon arrival? First, you should think about getting an accommodation in Barcelona.

Rooms in shared flats in Barcelona

Flat-hunting is more likely the most important part of this moving process. You have to keep in mind your budget, the timing of your research and the transportation.

The best housing option for an Erasmus student is renting a room in flat shared with other young internationals: having your own private accommodation and also making many friends to share unforgettable experiences with!

Get a Spanish SIM card

Don’t stop sharing your experience with your beloved ones! Before moving to Barcelona, check if your mobile phone plan is valid in Spain (you shouldn’t have many problems if you are European). If you come from a Non-Eu Country, we recommend you some cheap options such as Lycamobile, Vodafone, Orange, Movistar, etc.

Obtain a NIE in Spain

Being an Erasmus student in Barcelona won’t cause you many legal issues, but, if you are planning to extend your stay or you are looking for an internship, you should know how to get legal and obtain the NIE in Spain (or TIE if you’re not European) for your stay in the country.

Meet new friends in your Erasmus in Barcelona

Upon arrival, you will probably feel a confused mix of emotions: worries, excitement, happiness and the fear of “and what if I’m alone?”.

Don’t panic! Erasmus basically means FUN and FRIENDS! The experience you are about to live brings people to get more in touch, deeply connected. You, guys, will easily make incredible friendship by sharing unique experiences you couldn’t even imagine before.

Moreover, Barcelona is such a lively city, characterised by warm Spanish vibes that will always make you feel at home away from home!

In order to start knowing more people, we suggest you to join online communities on Facebook, looking for keywords such as “Erasmus in Barcelona” or “Expats in Barcelona”, and to live in a shared flat: the best solution to meet new international friends!
