Spain is a country full of great cities to visit in one or two days.

Living in MadridBarcelona or Valencia is a real luxury, but weekend getaways are perfect to enjoy the peninsula with your flatmates or new friends.

If you want to enjoy 100% your stay abroad, keep reading this blog about the 5 must-see cities in Spain!

These are the most beautiful cities in Spain that you can't miss.

Cádiz

We will begin our tour of the peninsula by visiting the city of Cadiz, known as the "Tacita de Plata", a city more than 3000 years old.

Its historic quarter, the Barrio del Pópulo, is crowned by the fantastic cathedral of Cádiz. One of the must-do plans is to have lunch in the Plaza de la Catedral with views of the cathedral and the church of Santiago.

The city is famous for its carnival and chirigotas, you should check when they are held as the dates change every year. This provincial capital is also famous for its route of the White Villages of Cadiz.

The best time to visit the small villages is in spring and autumn, when the colours of nature come out and the temperatures are more pleasant.

Granada

Granada is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. Situated at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, Granada was for a long time the capital of Al-Andalus and the last city to be reconquered by the Catholic Monarchs, leaving a great mark on its streets. The most famous of these is the Alhambra, one of the wonders of the world.

The city of Granada gives you the opportunity to stroll through its narrow streets while you come across incredible monuments and corners with great charm, another great plan is to have a beer with a good tapa in one of the squares of the Albaicín or watch the sunset over the Alhambra from one of its viewpoints.

San Sebastián

The perfect place to relax and enjoy the gastronomy.

We recommend a stroll along La Concha beach where you can enjoy views of the bay of La Concha and the island of Santa Clara. Continue your walk until you find yourself in front of the Peine del Viento (Wind Comb), one of the most famous works of the sculptor Eduardo Chillida.

The Old Part of San Sebastian, located at the foot of Mount Urgull, is the liveliest part of the city. Its streets are full of shops, restaurants and the typical pintxo bars where you can enjoy the typical atmosphere of the city.

You cannot leave without visiting the most important religious temples in the city: the Basilica of Santa María del Coro and the Church of San Vicente.

Toledo

Toledo is the perfect city to escape from Madrid for a weekend. Just an hour's bus ride away is a city where Christians, Muslims and Jews lived together for centuries, and it cannot be left out of the list of the most beautiful cities in Spain. For this reason, the city has a great legacy of churches, synagogues and mosques with architectural elements characteristic of each religion.

We recommend you visit the Church of Santo Tomé, where you will find "The Burial of the Count of Orgaz", one of El Greco's great masterpieces.

Before returning to Madrid you should make a stop at the Mirador del Valle viewpoint to fall even more in love with this incredible city.

Salamanca

This city is one of the best cities to spend a weekend when you are an international student. Salamanca is a monumental city, with more than 2,700 years of history and with an old town declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Salamanca is a city with several curiosities that make it unique and a highly recommended city to visit. Among them are the two cathedrals connected to each other, the University of Salamanca which is the oldest active university in Spain, the house of the shells or its impressive Plaza Mayor.

The best time to visit Salamanca is in September as the whole city takes to the streets to celebrate the patron saint festivities dedicated to the Virgen de la Vega. The celebrations begin on the 8th and last for a week.
